Notice: People over 16 can now see new information added to their health record. This includes notes from appointments, test results, and letters. You can view this via the NHS App, NHS website, or another GP online app you use. If you don’t want to see your record, speak to your GP.

You can visit www.nhs.uk/gp-record for more information.

services

We would like to inform you that GPs & Pharmacists across Birmingham & Solihull are working together to deliver a new service offering BP checks in local pharmacies for our population, known as the BP Community Pharmacy Service.

If you are over 40 and don’t already have a diagnosis of high blood pressure, you can visit one of your local participating pharmacies for a blood pressure check (your GP may also refer you to this service). If left untreated, high blood pressure increases your risk of serious problems such as heart attacks. You are also able to find your nearest participating pharmacy by visiting the website below and entering your postcode.

https://www.bsolhealthyhearts.nhs.uk/pharmacyfinder

Your local pharmacist is an expert in medicine. They can offer clinical advice and help you with a range of minor health concerns, including sore throats, tummy trouble, and aches and pains. Find out more about how pharmacists can help here. You can locate your nearest pharmacy here

The POD now handles all repeat prescriptions for Dr Kulshrestha’s Summerfield Family Practice patients

Your GP practice is open as normal, but certain measures are still  in place to ensure vulnerable patients are kept safe.

GP services remain very busy, delivering more appointments than ever before.

Telephone your GP practice and you will be advised accordingly and will receive a telephone or video appointment. Following this you will be advised of the next steps.

If you’re looking to order repeat prescriptions, you don’t need to call your GP practice to do this. You can now do this online or through the NHS App. Download the NHS App here.

CHANGES TO HOW YOU ACCESS YOUR GP SERVICES

Due to the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, the way you access your GP practice has changed.

Use online Patient Triage or telephone the practice. DO NOT attend in person.

Your GP practice will then arrange the best care for you depending on your need.  This will likely be a phone call or video call.

If you do need to see a doctor face-to-face, then this will be arranged for you and it may be in a different location.

Alternatively, use the online NHS 111 service or call NHS 111.

We want to reassure you that your GP practice is still here to look after you and your family.

IF YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS OF CORONAVIRUS INFECTION (COVID-19)

Stay at home and do not leave your house for 7 days from when your symptoms started.  This will help protect others in your community whilst you are infectious.  You should:

  • plan ahead and ask others for help to ensure that you can successfully stay at home
  • ask your employer, friends and family to help you to get the things you need to stay at home
  • stay at least 2 metres (about 3 steps) away from other people in your home whenever possible
  • sleep alone, if that is possible
  • wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds, each time using soap and water
  • stay away from vulnerable individuals such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions as much as possible

You do not need to contact your GP Practice or call NHS111 to go into self-isolation.

You will need to self-isolate for 7 days. After 7 days:

  • If you do not have a high temperature, you do not need to self-isolate;
  • If you still have a high temperature, keep self-isolating until your temperature returns to normal.

If your symptoms worsen during home isolation or are no better after 7 days contact online/call the NHS 111 service.

If you, or the person you are caring for, is struggling to breathe, has a fast pulse, their hands or lips are cold and/or blue, are drowsy, confused or difficult to wake, has tightness in their chest, or is unable to speak a short sentence, dial NHS 111 or 999 immediately.

If you need any other medical help, or advice, please contact your GP surgery between the hours of 8:30am and 6.30pm, and NHS 111 between the hours of 6.30pm and 8.30am for advice. In case of emergency, call 999.

An Antibiotic Amnesty is being held to encourage people to return their unused or old antibiotics to any local pharmacy and help combat antimicrobial resistance.

Antibiotic Amnesty

Do you have any unused or old antibiotics at home? We are asking you to return them to any local pharmacy as part of an Antibiotic Amnesty.

Antibiotics are important medicines for treating bacterial infections but the more they are used the more bacteria are able to find ways to survive the antibiotic. This is known as antibiotic resistance and is a huge threat to our future health. Without effective antibiotics many routine treatments will become increasingly dangerous. Setting broken bones, operations and treatments for cancer all rely on access to antibiotics that work.

You should only take antibiotics when they have been prescribed for you by a healthcare professional. Unless your doctor or nurse has specifically told you to, you should never save antibiotics for later, and never share them with others.

You can play your part in protecting antibiotics for the future by returning unused or old antibiotics to any local pharmacy.

Dr Kulshrestha’s Summerfield Family Practice is also encouraging all our staff and patients to become Antibiotic Guardians and choose a pledge to help protect these vital medicines.
